Privacy Policy — Rate Tracker Pro

Rate Tracker Pro ("the extension") is a Chrome extension that fetches and compares hotel room rates from Google Hotels listings for a user's own hotel and up to six competitor hotels, so the user can see how their pricing compares. This policy explains what data the extension collects, how it's used, and how it's stored.

What data the extension collects

The extension collects only the following, and only from pages the extension itself opens on the user's behalf:

• Website content: Publicly visible hotel price listings (OTA name, price, room category) read from Google Hotels / Google Maps pages that the extension opens in a background tab.
• Information the user types in: Hotel names and Google Hotels URLs the user manually enters to track.
• License key (optional): If the user purchases and enters a license key to unlock the paid version, that key is stored so the extension can verify it locally.
• Usage preferences: The auto-refresh interval the user selects, and the date the extension was installed (used only to calculate the free trial period).

What the extension does NOT collect

• No personally identifiable information (name, address, phone number, email)
• No financial or payment information — payment for upgrades is handled entirely outside the extension (via UPI transfer or direct contact), and the extension itself never processes, transmits, or stores any payment details
• No passwords or authentication credentials
• No browsing history outside the specific hotel-listing pages the extension itself opens
• No location data, keystrokes, clicks, or other activity tracking
• No health information

How data is stored

All data collected by the extension — tracked hotels, fetched prices, license status, and preferences — is stored locally on the user's device using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API.

None of this data is transmitted to, or stored on, any external server operated by the developer. The extension has no backend and does not communicate with any server other than the Google Hotels/Maps pages it opens to read pricing.

Data sharing

The extension does not sell, rent, or share any user data with third parties. There are no analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts of any kind in the extension.

Data retention and deletion

Data persists in local storage only until the user removes it (by deleting a tracked hotel) or uninstalls the extension, at which point Chrome automatically clears all data associated with it. Users can also clear stored data at any time via chrome://extensions → Rate Tracker Pro → "Clear storage," or by removing the extension.

Permissions used

• storage — to save tracked hotels, price results, and preferences locally.
• tabs — to open a background tab to load a hotel's Google Hotels page and close it automatically once pricing is read.
• scripting — to read visible price text already rendered on that page. No code is injected into tabs the user is actively browsing.
• notifications — to alert the user when a price-fetch finishes.
• alarms — to trigger the user-configured auto-refresh schedule.
• host_permissions (google.com) — required because hotel pricing is only available by loading Google Hotels/Maps pages.

Children's privacy

Rate Tracker Pro is a business tool intended for hotel owners and staff. It is not directed at, and does not knowingly collect data from, children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will be revised, and material changes will be reflected in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
